In the past two years unicorns and mermaids have flooded the nights of Halloween celebration. Whimsical creatures, glitter, and pastel colors took over Instagram feeds. Middle schoolers and college students alike enjoyed the return of fantasy characters.

Classic costumes are beginning to make a comeback. Ghosts, witches, and clowns are on the rise. These classics may be given a contemporary touch with inspiration from shows like “American Horror Story” or “The Purge.” Don’t be too scared of these iconic monsters because there will also be many superheroes to partake in the festivities. From “Black Panther” to “Wonder Woman” people across the country will be representing their favorite justice seekers.

As silly as it sounds, many couples are opting to be various foods. Crowd favorites being Peanut Butter & JellySalt & PepperKetchup & Mustard, and Starbucks beverages. Several pregnant women have also gone viral with dressing up as avocados. This simple costume is easily done with a green shirt and brown circle covering the belly to represent the pit.

Naturally, sexy costumes will prevail. Many of which involve a bodysuit with animalistic characteristics. A usual favorite is a black cat. Along with sexy felines, college campuses will be likely to see promiscuously-clad copsfirefighters, and nurses on the 31st of October.

Are you celebrating with a large group? Taking the lead is dressing up as the cast of “Stranger Things.” Along with this contemporary great, childhood classics are influencing friends all over. “Power Rangers,” “Minions,” “Winnie the Pooh,” and “Alvin & the Chipmunks are favorites for the millennials. Other picks include the cast of “Anchorman,” “Spice Girls” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

While many people are dressing up as animals for halloween, some animals are being dressed up as people! Pet owners are dressing up their cute furry friends for the holiday as anything from pirates, to Unicorns, to Chewbacca, to tacos. While some pets are seemingly more fond of their costumes than others, they’re certainly all unbearably cute in them!

Creativity is always encouraged when it comes to this holiday. If you plan on entering any Halloween costume contests, originality is often taken into consideration. Handmade costumes are fun to make and allow you to integrate your own personal authenticity. Many homemade costumes are inspired by puns, shows, political figures, and various aspects of life.

When choosing your next Halloween costume, try to be socially aware and considerate of other cultures. Halloween is a fun holiday in which you can dress up as whatever you want, however, there have been an abundance of people who have lost their jobs or have been socially punished in their choice of apparel. If you are questioning a costume’s integrity, you probably should not wear it.

Halloween is an exciting time to represent fantasy characters, humorous depictions, and to live out your inspirations for one night out of the year. Regardless of if you are dressing up alone, or with other people, be sure to have fun, be safe and enjoy the holiday.
