YouTube Showcase: ExploringWithJosh

Although I only started urban exploration a year ago, my initial interest began with Youtube videos made by ExploringWithJosh. The first one that sparked my interest was a video about an abandoned village near a volcano. I remember him jumping around the buildings and thinking to myself that he had to be absolutely crazy, but still it interested me and I found myself wanting to do crazy things like him. Little did I know, just a few months later I’d be exploring abandoned houses, railroad tracks, and prisons. Josh really inspired me to go out and explore with friends, and his videos taught me the basic rules of urban exploring. You never reveal the locations of your abandoned sites because part of the exploration is finding the places yourself. Another rule is to leave the site as you found it because you don’t want to ruin the place for the next people who stumble upon it. I hold these rules in very high regard. I make sure my friends and I don’t take anything or destroy the property, because I would hate to be the reason an abandoned site is ruined for someone else.

Since I’ve only been at Kennesaw State University for around two months, I haven’t been able to find any abandoned places just yet, nor many people who share the interest. I was told about a set of abandoned train tracks a couple weeks ago and took my friend Christian with me when he came to visit. He thoroughly enjoyed climbing the makings of the track and I loved taking photos of a new setting. I’m ready to get out and look around the town for places to explore and practice my photography at, thanks to ExploringWithJosh’s inspiration!
