Today is the final Opening Day at Turner Field. It’s a bittersweet moment for the venue that houses the Atlanta Braves, as they will be moving north of the city and settling in Marietta’s SunTrust Park. April 4th, 2016 will be a historic day, not only because this is their last season at Turner Field, but also because of the legacy of success that will be left there. The Braves won 11 pennants in their time at Turner Field (it’d be a miracle if they won 12).
As an Atlantian, I want to be a part of the history that will take place at Turner Field. Sure, ticket prices will be four to five times higher due to the importance of the ultimate Opening Day in Turner Field, but it is surely worth it. Today, I’ve decided to go to the game with my grandfather who has been a Braves fan since their time in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. He told me his experience with the last stadium and how he was there to see Hank Aaron hit the home run that broke Babe Ruth’s record. Being able to be a part of a grand legacy is something special in the realm of sports.
As a KSU student, I ask whoever is reading this to go and see the Braves play at Turner Field. The culture and the vibe that surrounds the stadium is addicting, to say the least. Even though the Braves are more than likely to be a sub-.500 team, it is a great way to spend time with friends and family. With ticket prices being as low as five dollars in some cases, a Braves fan will get their money’s worth and then some at Turner Field. Remember there are 80 games remaining to be played at Turner Field, so don’t let the opportunity pass you by! This is the chance of a lifetime to grasp the legacy and history of Turner Field.
