Unbelievable, sorrow, and despair – these are just a few words that any Atlanta football fan would use to describe this year’s Super Bowl. I cannot begin to explain the amount of emotions on that long Sunday night. Atlanta was ready to explode with excitement for our first NFL championship. The Falcons got off to a great start and seemed to be pulling away with the victory, but everything changed when the Patriot nation attacked.
Early On
Early in the game, the Falcons were matching the hype going into the game as they took off to a 21-0 lead. The offense was firing on all cylinders and they were not missing any steps. Matt Ryan was looking like the quarterback that we’ve been waiting for as he moved the ball downfield. The Falcons’ defense was air tight, stopping Tom Brady in his tracks and making the Patriots’ offense uncomfortable.
Later in the Game
Right when everyone was about to stop watching the one-sided game, the Patriots found a way to crawl back into the game. The Patriots trailed 25 points, but somehow, some way, they came back to tie the game toward the end of the fourth quarter. This led to the first ever overtime in Super Bowl history, which, of course, would see the Falcons coming up on the short end.
“What went wrong?” you may ask. Well, maybe the entire team got too relaxed. Maybe the Lady Gaga performance discombobulated the entire team. At the end of the day, nobody really knows why things happen to Atlanta like this. There have been different Atlanta sports playoff troubles, but this has been the closest that we have gotten to winning it all.
Heads Held High
While this game left football fans in awe, there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Next year, the Falcons will be playing in the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, along with the Atlanta United soccer team. This stadium features astonishing new features, such as a retractable roof and over twice the amount of food vendors as the Georgia Dome. Something else to look forward to is the new stadium’s food prices. According to CNN, a family of four will be able to eat for about 28 dollars, which makes the Mercedes-Benz stadium one of the cheapest stadium of all major sports leagues.
Our team has been on a steady upswing as one of the premier teams in the NFL. We are still the NFC champions, and that carries weight. We are proud of our team for making it to the Super Bowl. Now is the time to be a Falcons fan, so do not drag your heads:#RiseUp.
