On Wednesday, February 3rd, I went to one of the most amazing and well-organized events of the semester so far; the event was titled “Black Girls Rock” and it was hosted by the African American Student Alliance (AASA). “Black Girls Rock” was an event created to empower and honor black women of all ages at Kennesaw State University. AASA got the idea to host this event from the awards show of the same name on BET, and the event served as a way to acknowledge and express gratitude to black female students, faculty, and staff of KSU for their selfless contributions to the university and the surrounding community.
If you are interested in joining AASA or in seeing what they are up to, there will be a few more upcoming events held on the Kennesaw campus that are open to the student body:
- General Body Meetings: a variety of discussion topics, as well as games for socializing. Dates for this month include February 11th & 25th from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in University Room A of the Student Center.
- The Ratchford Ball: a banquet-style awards ceremony to celebrate the success of the academic year and announce our new executive board for the school year to come. This event will be held on April 23rd from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the University Rooms.
- Class Clown: a comedy show that will be a mix of poetry and comedy to give the students a little relaxation during high-stress finals time. This event will be held on April 28th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in University Rooms A & B.
- The Onyx Ceremony: an event to congratulate and pay tribute to all black and multiracial graduates for the 2015-2016 year. This event will be held on May 7th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Location: TBA.
