As college students, we have a lot of stress on our shoulders. From choosing a major to earning good grades, there are times when we just need to sit back and relax. And what better way to unwind than discovering new (and old) binge-worthy TV shows. Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers!
Friends (Netflix)
I’m starting off with a major classic! To keep it short and simple, Friends navigates the lives of six friends living in New York. Throughout the span of the ten seasons, each character undergoes life changes, relationship issues, and many other life dilemmas. This hit will make you laugh, cry and everything in between. If you haven’t watched Friends before, I highly suggest giving it a shot, and soon. It will be leaving Netflix in 2020.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Hulu)
Adding in another long-running binge worthy sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a whopping fourteen seasons! This show follows the lives of five friends running an Irish bar in Philadelphia, hence the name. However, It’s Always Sunny isn’t for everyone. The comedy can be offensive and extreme to certain people and yet it is still vastly popular and continues to make new seasons. Currently, there are thirteen seasons available on Hulu and no end in sight.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Hulu)
A considerably “newer” comedy show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has repeatedly proven that it is a fan favorite. With 6 seasons, there’s an episode and character for everyone to love. Brooklyn Nine-Nine focuses on life in the 99th precinct of the New York police department, specifically that of Jake Peralta. Over the seasons, we see Peralta, Captain Raymond Holt, and the rest of the precinct bond through hardships and wacky replacement captains. Personally, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is my go to feel good show.
Lucifer (Netflix)
Taking a step away from sitcoms, Lucifer is a more crime driven drama. Although, it does have its fair share of comedic relief. This series maneuvers the life of Lucifer Morningstar, aka The Devil, ditching his duties in Hell and moving to Los Angeles, where he becomes a consultant for LAPD Detective Decker. Lucifer only has four seasons available on Netflix, with the fifth (and final) season most likely airing in 2020.
Queer Eye (Netflix)
Queer Eye is a reality show that follows the “Fab Five” and their quest to revamp different kinds of people around the country. Each of the five have their own specialties such as giving makeovers and advice that are put to use throughout each episode. Season 5 is being released in 2020, but for now there is a new season based outside the States and instead in Japan! Queer Eye is most definitely a tear-jerker, but it is the quickest binge-worthy show on our list.
If none of these shows sound like your speed, check out how some KSU students like to spend their TV binge watching time below, for some extra ideas.
“My go-to show is either Grey’s Anatomy or The Office,” says Sydney Smith. “Grey’s Anatomy because drama always distracts me from whatever is stressing me. The Office because it’s hilarious and always puts me in a better mood.”
“I would say that my immediate show would be The Ranch,” says Vaughn Claussen. “It’s just a calm show that reminds me a lot of That 70s Show, but just adds country to it. I chose that show because I saw Ashton Kutcher was in it and it has a lot of the old cast from That 70s Show, so it’s a nice throwback.”
“My favorite show to watch when I need a distraction is How To Get Away With Murder because there’s so much drama going on that it helps me forget about my own stress,” Haley Barnett said.
“My go-to is Big Mouth because their ability to provide comedy of puberty that ranges from relatable experiences to over the top scenarios is like pure ecstasy,” says Adam Glisson. “It helps me to relax and realize that I’m not the only person with problems in their life.”
