On Friday, October 14th, KSU Live hosted one of the best Homecoming Concerts of the decade, featuring Kali J, Jaye Newton & DJ Scream! The venue changed from the Fifth Third Bank Stadium on the Kennesaw Campus to the basketball gymnasium on the Marietta Campus. There were some issues that students said they had with getting tickets, but if you made it out you already will agree that this was the concert of the year on campus.
The performer this year was Lupe Fiasco, who is an American rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur. He rose to fame in 2006 following the debut of his album, Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor. He also performs as the frontman of rock band Japanese Cartoon under his real name, Wasalu Muhammad Jaco. As an entrepreneur, Fiasco is the CEO of 1st & 15th Entertainment.
At the Homecoming Concert, Fiasco performed “Kick Push” from Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor, which he has received four Grammy nominations for. He also performed his lead single “Superstar,” his first Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 list which was released on his second album, Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool, in December 2007. Lastly, Fiasco performed “Adoration of the Magi” from his latest album, Tetsuo & Youth, which was released in 2015.
In addition to music, Fiasco has pursued fashion and philanthropic opportunities. He has two clothing lines, Righteous Kung-Fu and Trilly & Truly. Righteous Kung-Fu was in production from 2006-2011 and is no longer being sold. No worries, though. If you’re interested in getting gear designed by the artist himself, you can still find Trilly & Truly at the Lupe Fiasco Store website. He has been involved with the Summit expedition, recorded a benefit single for victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and tributed a Mission against Cancer.
