Are there any songs you enjoy that you think could use a good remixing, but you don’t think that you could do it justice? Ever wanted to produce your own music, but don’t know where to start? Well, look no further! Thanks to some research I did while at the Imagine Music Festival this year, I have noted two good software programs that anyone interested in integrating into the realm of music production and DJing can use to become the next best musician on the block. Want to unleash the musical artist deep inside of you? Here’s some intel on how to help get those creative juices running.
Ableton Live
What is it?
– Ableton Live is software dedicated to the creation of musical content. You can record audio, mix and match samples, and make use of the many sounds, instruments, and effects included with the program. Live gives you essentially all of the tools required to turn your creative thoughts into music. You can even use it to do live performances, if you so choose.
Features
– Two views to work in: Arrangement View, which uses a timeline system to track your musical creations, and Session View, which allows you to get experimental with your development.
– Nondestructive editing with unlimited undo.
– Multitrack recording up to 32-bit/192 kHz.
– Unlimited Instruments, Audio effects and MIDI effects per project.
– And much, much more.
Related Tech
– Ableton Push is an instrument which gives you the complete range of function that Ableton Live does, without the need to be on your computer to do so. You can create sequences of music, manipulate samples, and even record everything you do from the tips of your fingers. It’s a completely hands-on experience.
– Ableton Link is an add-on tool to Live that allows multiple Live users to have jam sessions together and stay in time across wireless networks with electronic instruments.
Alternative Software
– LMMS, FL Studio, GarageBand, Reason, REAPER
Serato DJ
What is it?
