Virtual reality has hit its high mark. That’s right, VR was one of the stars at the Game Developers Conference 2016 in San Francisco over the week of March 14th. Oculus brought more than 30 games to show off for its new headset, Rift, which has a release date of March 28th. Valve also has a VRT showing of 30 games for the HTC Vive, on sale in April. Last but not least, Sony showed off 20 games for its PlayStation VR headset releasing in October.
Some of the games that critics are currently raving about include Eagle Flight by Ubisoft, The Climb by Crytek, and Raw Data by Survios.
Eagle Flight
Made for the PlayStation and its VR headset, Ubisoft’s Eagle Flight lets you literally fly like an eagle, alone or with friends, through the city of Paris. Set 50 years after humans vanished from Earth, nature has overgrown and claimed the city of Paris for its own. Soar past iconic landmarks, fly through the streets, and even engage others in dog fights to protect what’s yours.
The Climb
Do you enjoy rock climbing but not heights? Then come experience virtual rock climbing with the beautiful landscapes and mountains of The Climb by Crytek for the Oculus Rift. Players will scale mountains and peaks and can choose between free climb mode or racing mode, where players get to challenge their friends and other players to see who can climb the route the fastest. This game was created with assistance from actual rock climbers to help with level design, and The Climb looks to give acrophobics and avid climbers alike a ‘safer’ way to get the thrill and excitement of rock climbing from your home.
Raw Data
Raw Data by Survios for the HTC Vive is a multiplayer first-person combat game that features whole-body gameplay with interactive weapons, defenses, and upgrades. Capitalizing on the capabilities for the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch, Raw Data looks to produce an immersive experience as players are tasked to bring down Eden Corp, a shady but massive manufacturer. Find their raw data, fight wave after wave of battle androids, and survive.
